Oil of Oregano

ORIGANUM COMPACTUM

Origanum compactum, Essential Oil of Oregano, is one of two varieties of the mint family

(Lamiaceae) that can be made into oregano oil. The other and most used variety of oregano plants used for the production of essential oregano oil is Origanum vulgare.

The essential oil extracted from the Origanum compactum plant is agrestic, phenolic, and herbaceous.
Oregano oil, Origanum compactum (O. compactum) is one of the most powerful antimicrobial essential oils. Laboratory research at Weber State University showed it to have a 99% kill rate against in vitro colonies of Streptococcus pneumoniae, a micro-organism responsible for many kinds of lung and throat infections. This oil is antiviral, antibacterial, antifungal, and antiparasitic.

O. compactum one of seven oils that synergistically kill viral and bacterial pathogens, reduce inflammation, support the immune system, ease respiratory discomfort, relax stressed muscles and relieve body and joint discomfort as well as balance energy lift the spirit restore calm intricacy ability to concentrate. The other six oils are fine, basil, Cyprus, Wintergreen, margarine, peppermint.

O. compactum is rich in carvacrol and is one of the most powerful purifying and antiseptic essential oils known to science.

Over 100 clinical research studies have documented how essential oils killed the microbes that cause tooth decay in gingivitis according to Christine Charles in a study published by the Journal of American dental Association. “The efficiency oregano essential oil containing antiseptic mouth rants has been demonstrated in numerous double-blind clinical studies”. According to the Journal of Clinical Peridontology, “oregano antiseptic mouth rinses are well known for their antibacterial effectiveness and are widely used for the prevention and treatment peritontitis and the prevention of plaque.

Essential oils are some of the most powerful inhibitors of microbes known, and as such are an important new weapon in combating many types of tissue infection.

Fungal cultures in our body such as Candida excrete large amounts of poisons called mycotoxins as part of their life cycles these portions must begin talks of five by delivering new systems. Oil of oregano can help eliminate dormant fungi from the body.

Diffusing essential oils is one of the best ways to prevent spread of airborne bacteria and viruses. Oregano exerts highly antimicrobial effects and can effectively eliminate many kinds of pathogens.Because essential oils are non-toxic to humans they make excellent treatments to combat scabies and mice infections
O. compactum has been used traditionally in Moroccan medicine for generations. In more recent years, the reason for this has been made known – it is practically a pharmacy unto itself, as it is laboratory tested for purity, efficacy, and intended for internal use. Throughout Morocco, oregano, is known as “Zaatar” that corresponds to the species O. compactum, and is traditionally considered biggest species for health.
O. compactum became noted by becoming Donald Gary Young’s ND choice for oregano oil, when he, founded a Utah-based multi-level marketing company in 1993, that highlighted Origanum compactum over Origanum vulgare. His company “Young Living” sales info claims that Origanum compactum is milder and sweeter than Origanum vulgare, which would indicate “for internal use”.

The most potent and active compounds in oregano, carvacrol and thymol, caused current European studies to find that oregano is very effective for treating colds, sore throats, sinusitis, retinitis, and dermatological disorders. These compounds in oregano oil are strong antibacterial and antimicrobial ingredients.

Studies have been conducted at Cornell, Georgetown and the University of Tennessee. Worldwide, whether the research focused on, each time, the strength of the carvacrol, the oil’s key compound, determined if the oil was effective on pathogens. The results are extremely promising. Researchers concluded that oregano oil is highly effective against bacteria, including E. coli and H. pylori (responsible chronic gastritis and ulcers). It was discovered that cavacrol in oregano oil was just as effective as antibiotics. O. compactum essential oil showed the best antifungal activity towards Fusarium species and Bipolaris oryzae with a total inhibition of the mycelial growth.

Origanum compactum Benth (O. compactum) is an important aromatic and medicinal plant in the Mediterranean. Several studies recently conducted have demonstrated that O. compactum posses an antifungal, antimicrobial, antibacterial, antioxidant, anti-mutagenic, cytotoxic, and anti-corrosion activities.

The time of year that each variety of mint is harvested extremely affects the carvacrol percentage in the two oils. Origanum vulgare consistently has a higher level of carvacrol.

Grades of O. compactum

Much emphasis has been put on what the grade of essential oils are, such as:
Medicinal-grade, Therapeutic-grade, CERTIFIED PURE-grade, Aromatherapy grade, Grade A, etc.
ʻTherapeutic grade’ arose during the 1990ʼs and did not exist prior to that time. It was invented by some very clever marketers who wanted people to believe that their oils were somehow therapeutic grade essential oils and a better grade than all others.

This seal or word mark is nothing more than a commercial trademark that they have registered and paid a fee for. There is no such thing as a ʻtherapeutic gradeʼ or ‘approved’ essential oil, and no quality standards for the authentication of essential oils specifically exist in aromatherapy.”

‘CERTIFIED PURE THERAPEUTIC GRADE’ is a relatively new trademark by a multi-level marketing company. It gives the appearance of being approved by some kind of higher authority. This in actuality is another purchased trademark by another multilevel marketing company. There are no approval authorities in private or the government that set standards for differentiating the quality of essential oils.

GRAS, AFNOR, FMA, ISO, FDA, do not regulate or certify any grades of essential oils.
Even A GC-MS report may fail to reveal the age and quality of an essential oil, particularly in relation to the quality an aromatherapist or a patient is looking for.

‘Internal Use’.
The European growers of essential oils have sold their oils for internal use for hundreds of years, but do not have the money to spend on testing that would declare that their oils can be consumed. The “smooth marketing” executives of multi-level companies have created the false narrative for “internal use” to enable charging as much as five times the market value so their multi-levels of salespeople can each receive a cut from your purchase.

REMEMBER NO AUTHORIZED AGENCY HAS GIVEN THEIR APPROVAL FOR INTERNAL USE OF ANY ESSENTIAL OIL.

‘Not for Internal Use’.This label has become another prerequisite for companies smaller than the 2 multilevel companies that have used millions of dollars to have laboratory tests done so they can say “approved for internal use”.

Dr. Mercola says, “.” I highly recommend adding oregano oil to your arsenal of natural healing tools“.
